SUMMARY:Community Open Gym
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a way to help your kids get the wiggles out as the weather changes? The Underwood Gym is open on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 – 5:30 pm this fall and winter! \nOpen Gym will make the Community Center available to individuals and families for shooting hoops\, playing cards\, and organizing family-friendly games (like dodgeball\, four-square\, pickleball\, etc.) This is a free\, drop-in community event and there is no formal programming planned. SUMMARY:Blood Drive
DESCRIPTION:Color your fall with kindness and donate blood this October! The need for donors is always great\, and this month\, donors in Underwood will receive a $10 e-gift card for their donation\, plus be entered to win one of three $5000 gift cards. The American Red Cross will be at the Underwood Community Center from 12:30 to 5:30 on October 22. Booking an appointment in advance is strongly recommended. \n\nHere’s how to donate: \n\n1. Check Eligibility Requirements\nMore people can donate blood than ever before. Before you book an appointment to donate\, be sure to confirm your eligibility. If you have eligibility concerns\, you may call 866-236-3276.\n  \n2. Schedule an appointment.\n\n\nReview available time slots in Underwood and choose the available date and time that works best for you. We strongly encourage donors to register a time slot in advance. Walk-ins will only be accepted if all appointments have not filled up. Choose a time slot here or scan the QR code below to view open appointments: \n\n\n\n\n \n\nNot available to give blood on this day? Choose another date from our scheduled Blood Drives this year. \n\n\n  \n3. Complete your Rapid Pass Paperwork.\nThis process is best done in a private location\, online in advance of your appointment. It should take roughly 10-15 minutes to complete and if not done in advance\, it will be required on-site at the time of donation. Completing the Rapid Pass paperwork process early will save time during your appointment and reduce overall wait times at the blood drive event. When prompted\, be sure to use zip code 98651 on your form.\n\n\n\n\n  \n4. Download the Blood Donor App.\n\nThis is not required\, but it is encouraged! The free Blood Donor app puts the power to save lives in the palm of your hand. Schedule and manage appointments\, complete your RapidPass® paperwork\, get notified when your blood is on its way to a patient\, view results from your mini-physical\, and more. \n\n \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \nGENERAL FAQs\nWhat is the age requirement for donating blood?\nThe minimum age for making a donation is 16. 17 -year olds (and up) do not need parental consent. 16-year-olds need parental consent and parents must accompany their child for the donation.\n\n  \nWhat should I bring to my appointment? \nBring your Drivers License or Red Cross Blood Donor Card. We also encourage you to download the Blood Donor app in advance of the blood drive.\n\n  \nHow do I prepare for my appointment? \nDrink plenty of water before you donate and make sure to be well-rested the day of your appointment. Eat a healthy meal\, avoiding fatty foods like hamburgers\, fries or ice cream\, and wear a shirt with sleeves that you can roll up above your elbows.  All these things will make the donation process easier. Here’s a complete guide to navigating your donation day.  Questions? Call 866-236-3276.\n\n  \nI can’t donate blood\, but I’d still like to help. Are there other volunteer opportunities available?\nYou bet!  Volunteering to help with an upcoming blood drive in Underwood is a great way to contribute to the cause! Reach out to our blood drive organizer\, Lisa Brown\, for details.\n\n\n\n \nStill have questions? Get information about the most Common Concerns people have about giving blood.

SUMMARY:The Gorge Under Surveillance: Community Update Discussion Night
DESCRIPTION:This past year\, Skamania County installed Flock Safety license plate reader cameras in various locations throughout the county\, including one on Tribal land at the in-lieu site on Cook-Underwood Road. These cameras automatically record passing vehicles and upload data to a private company database accessible to law enforcement. \nRecently\, a landmark Washington court case ruled that all images recorded by these cameras are public record\, and anyone can request them. In response\, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office indicated its intent to disable the county’s Flock cameras and has since turned them off over concerns that the court decision could make it easier to weaponize the data they collect. \nStill\, questions remain. Will cameras be removed or only turned off? What data was collected when they were on\, and who had access to it? What challenges have other cities had in getting Flock cameras turned off and/or removed? \nIf you have ongoing questions about Flock surveillance systems in our community\, mark your calendar and join neighbors for an evening of updates\, sharing\, and discussion. what other communities have learned after adopting similar technology. \nAdditional discussion topics will include: \n– What makes Flock cameras different from other security cameras?\n– Who can access Flock camera data\, and how is it being used?\n– What has our six-month data audit revealed about system activity\, accuracy\, and new camera locations?\n– What have other communities learned after adopting similar technology?\n– How have communities elsewhere responded to safety gains and/or privacy concerns?\n– What rights and responsibilities do residents have regarding public surveillance? \nThis is a neighbor-led information session\, not a government meeting. Your host\, a local resident and national privacy and security expert\, will share recent legal developments\, county updates\, and practical steps communities are taking to ensure transparency and accountability. \nThis event is free and open to everyone.
