The United States Postal Service (USPS) rents space from the Underwood Park and Recreation District (UPRD), paying a monthly fee to remain in its current location. In October 2024, the USPS renewed their rental contract for an additional seven (7) years. So long as we continue to make wise investments in keeping our buildings maintained, we anticipate the USPS and postal services will remain in Underwood for many years to come. Below are five things you should know about our upcoming renovations.

The Post Office building is owned by Underwood residents.

In November 2016, the Community Center and Park were heading for a county surplus list and slated to be torn down. Recognizing the value and importance of preserving the park and grounds as a local resource, Underwood residents created a Park and Recreation District that year and elected five commissioners to serve as volunteer stewards of the park. In 2018, a small tax levy was passed to support operations at the park, and with this modest amount of funding secured (and stewards elected to be responsible for community tax dollars), ownership of the Community Center and Park (including the post office building) was officially deeded to residents in 2019. All maintenance for the Underwood Community Center and Park is now the responsibility of the UPRD Board of Commissioners.
