We know many of you have been looking forward to the new baseball diamond and the upgrades to our basketball and tennis courts. From the outside, it may seem like little progress has been made, but important work is happening behind the scenes.

The UPRD team is currently working through the required permitting process. Before construction can begin, our National Scenic Area permit application must be approved, and we are actively awaiting that final step. While this phase can feel slow, it is a necessary part of ensuring the project moves forward safely and correctly.

In the meantime, we’re excited to share some positive news. UPRD Chair Bob Wittenburg has successfully secured a local grant in the amount of $10,000. These funds will be used to support the construction of ADA-accessible walkways, an essential requirement of the RCO grant and a meaningful improvement to ensure our park is accessible to all members of our community.

We appreciate your patience and continued support. We look forward to sharing more updates as soon as we receive permit approval and can begin construction.

The RCO is the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office. You can find more information about them here.
