Snow Plow Services & Winter Storm Prep

Winter Storms are Snow Joke

Snowfall in Underwood is not an uncommon occurrence in winter. Most residents are equipped to manage a light dusting of snow that melts within a day or two, but when a storm hits and snow begins to accumulate, sometimes there’s only so much shoveling one family can do and you have to call in the reserves!

Snow plow operators and snow removal services are in high-demand after winter events. Underwood is slightly off the beaten path of major traffic routes, and as such, it’s wise to reach out to service providers in advance of a storm (or at the start of the season) to secure your place on their books. Below is a list of local operators that will provide services to homes in Underwood.

Are You Sufficiently Prepared?

There are many ways you can prepare in advance for the worst of a winter storm. Don’t let bad weather catch you off guard! Some of the biggest concerns during inclement weather are loss of heat, power and telephone service plus a shortage of supplies if storm conditions continue for more than a day. Here’s a quick checklist adapted from the National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Guide that includes items you may want to start collecting in advance of a weather incident:

  • Flashlights, lanterns and extra batteries
  • Back-up battery chargers
  • Battery-powered NOAA Weather Radio and portable radio to receive emergency information
  • Extra food and water that requires no cooking or refrigeration
  • Extra prescription medicine
  • Baby items such as diapers and formula
  • First-aid supplies
  • Heating fuel: refuel before you are empty
  • Emergency heat source: fireplace, wood stove or space heater properly ventilated to prevent a fire
  • Extra pet food and warm shelter for pets
  • Generator (Review generator safety, never run a generator in an enclosed space)

Check-In on Your Neighbors

If you are safely snowed-in for days on end and well-provisioned with a little extra time on your hands, please consider taking a few minutes to check-in on neighbors, especially those who are elderly or may need extra assistance through inclement weather. The energy spent reaching out might make a very real difference in the lives of those around you.
