The Post Office Building’s New Clothes

Our work is almost done! And Underwood’s post office building will soon have new clothes. (The old ones were really worn out.) This Saturday, October 18, the painting process will officially begin. In the coming week, please avoid areas that are taped for painting, and be sure to avoid the parking lot when crews are spraying! Thanks (in advance) for your patience as we put the final touches on this project.

Until this year, the building that houses the post office had no siding or building wrap over its structural sheathing. Just paint, some holes, some rot, some bugs, and birds. It was in desperate need of some big improvements. In human terms, this would be the equivalent of standing nearly naked! It had no shoes, no shirt, no pants.

As of this summer, however, it’s wearing new clothes! It’s even got undies. (In construction terms, that’d be building wrap). Its new shirt and pants are siding and trim. Its shoes are new windows and a new garage door.

The final exterior paint job is scheduled to start mid-month in October. Paint colors selected will be complementary to those of the fire department. To date, the UPRD has spent $46,660 on the project. Pressure washing, caulking, covering soffits, improving external lighting, painting, and more will add an additional $19,000.

Soon, Underwood will have a building that’s well-dressed and ready to last a very long time. We hope you’ll swing by and admire its new attire!
